Ladies generally in South India(office going, house wives, students and
youth's) wear strings of flowers in their plaits or jadai. This adds a
very feminine touch to them. The flowers that are genrally used are
jasmine(Mallipoo and Mulai) and Kanakambaram flowers(crossandra
flowers). The flowers infuses freshness to the person, who ever is wearing
it.The jasmine is usually harvested during summer,it has to be handled
very delicately and it is transported to various markets fresh.Jasmine
has that fragrance, which is kind of divine, whereas the
kanakambaram, which is pinkish and orangish in colour does not have
fragrance in it.Jasmine comes in thin as well as rounded variety.Ladies
wearing this flowers, symbolise a unique South Indian culture. The flowers
usually don't stay for long,just for a day only.Oflate,with
modernism/hair styles,creeping all over,this practisis slowly
diminishing. But in semi urban and rural areas,it is kind of de rigour to
follow this unique trend.
